In the Works
Here's what Children First is currently working on, and how you can get involved.
Community Champions
Parenting committee is working on Community Champions project. This project includes community leaders in 4 different areas of Prince George. The leaders work on engaging their neighbourhood residents in a project or program that has been identified by the community as something that is needed. For example, a drop in program for parents and/or care providers and their young children has started in the Pilot Mountain area. The community leaders establish this program with the help of residents, support from the parenting committee and Children First staff.
Northern Child Website
Children First Prince George, United Way and Success by Six have partnered to create a Northern-Wide Regional Early Childhood Development website. The site was launched in July 2007. www.northernchild.ca
Early Years Awareness Campaign
Materials have been developed to raise awareness about the importance of the first 6 years of life and more are being created. Watch for posters and displays throughout the city.
Strategic Planning
Children First is currently working to bring together all existing plans for early childhood development in Prince George. The goal is to have one Early Childhood Development plan for this area that all agencies and organizations participate in creating.
